Types of service

I offer French to English translations, German to English translations, Spanish to English translations and Italian to English translations, as well as other related services listed below.

Please note that, as professional translators work into their native language only, all my services are performed exclusively into English.

Translation
Taking a text in one language and rendering it in another, so that the same message in the same style is transmitted to a new audience. Some linguistic and cultural tweaking will always be necessary to ensure the end reader receives the message in the same way.

Transcreation
Taking a text in one language and adapting it significantly into another, keeping the spirit and tone of a message while changing some of the words and ideas. Good for marketing and advertisement, where the “feel” of the message is just as important as the content.

Revision
Taking a translated document and comparing it against its original in order to ensure that there are no translation mistakes and that the style is appropriate.

Proofreading
Taking a document, translated or not, and reviewing it simply without comparing it to another language version in order to ensure that it reads well and to eliminate typos and other mistakes.

Transcription*
Taking an audio or video file and producing a plain, written script from it, cleaning up the various spoken tics we all have in order to create an appropriate written document.

Subtitling*
Taking a transcription and editing it into subtitles, reorganising the content if necessary to respect the various international subtitling rules on lengths and timings and ensure readability.

DTP (Desktop publishing)
Taking uneditable files (generally PDF) and producing editable ones from them (generally Word).

*As translation works from the written language, transcribing or subtitling an audio or video file from one language into another is a two-step process, involving an initial transcription of the source language before the target transcription/subtitles can be produced. Transcribing in the same language as the audio without translation does not require this.

Customer service

My support does not end when you receive your translation. I welcome feedback and comments, as this allows me to both make any tweaks required in the text I sent you and better respond to your specific needs for future collaborations.
